Climate resilience begins with community rights over the forests people depend on.

Members of 316 Gram Sabhas across 8 tahasils of Koraput district celebrated securing their Community Forest Resource (CFR) rights. This milestone is the result of years of persistent struggle by the communities themselves.

SPREAD has facilitated 936 Gram Sabhas to file CFR claims under the Forest Rights Act. About one-third have now been recognised. That is real progress, and it also shows how far we still have to go.
When communities hold rights over their forests, they can protect, manage and regenerate them, building resilience against a changing climate while securing their livelihoods.
Gram Sabha members and the SPREAD team will keep working with the system, relentlessly, until every one of the 936 claims is recognised. 100% is the goal.
